Diabetic Foot Care for Healthy Feet!

   If you are diabetic it is extremely important to prevent swelling and
   injury by taking good care of your feet.  Diabetics have an increased
   risk in developing  foot problems. Here is a list of 7 foot care tips for
   diabetics.  Keep your diabetes in check and take care of your feet
​   properly.

1.   Wash Your Feet Every Day.
It is important to keep your feet clean daily for proper foot health. It is recommended to use warm soap and water to wash your feet and be sure to dry your feet especially between your toes.
 
2.   Check Your Feet Every Day.
You should diligently check your feet every day for cuts or sores, to be sure you can treat them properly and they do not get infected.  Diabetics are more likely to heal more slowly.  Look for any types of unusual red spots, blisters and swelling. You should contact The Foot Doctor right away if you find any issues.
 
3.   Always Protect Your Feet by Wearing Shoes and Socks.
Protect your feet by wearing socks and good fitting shoes.  Walking barefoot exposes you to cuts and sores that could become infected.
 
4.   Keep the Blood Flow to Your Feet.
Diabetics are at higher risk for decreased blood flow and circulation to your feet.  Do not smoke, elevate your feet often and always move your toes.
 
5.   Trim Your Toenails.
When trimming your toenails be sure to cut them straight across and file them. Cutting your toenails at an angle puts you at risk for ingrown nails with infections. Be sure to trim your nails regularly
6.  Smooth Corns and Calluses Gently
Many diabetics typically have corns and calluses on their feet. These can be smoothed gently with a pumice stone however it is better to visit The Foot Doctor if they are painful.
 
7.   See Your Podiatrist Regularly to Treat Foot Problems.
Your foot health is extremely important if you are diabetic.  Be sure to see The Foot Doctor regularly with any foot problems you may have.
